Perhaps the best
tribute to the astronauts aboard the Space
Shuttle Columbia was given on Flight Day 15 (Thurs, Jan. 30).
STS-107
Pilot Willie McCool and Israeli Payload Specialist Ilan Ramon
awakened their crewmates to a rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine."
They added the
following message:
"From
our orbital vantage point, we observe an earth
without borders, full of peace, beauty and magnificence. And we pray
that humanity as a whole can imagine a borderless world, as we see it,
and strive to live as one in peace." Ramon then translated the statement
into Hebrew.
